英語で相撲用語 SumoTerms in English [Banzuke]

今日は、番付や勝ち越し・負け越しなどに関係する相撲用語について、英語で説明していこうと思います！
I will explain about sumo terminology in English. For example the words for rankings and match results.

勝ち越し(Kachikoshi)： winning record
勝ち越しとは、本場所で、勝ちの数が敗けの数を上回ることです。
Winning record(kachi koshi) is to have more wins than losses in Grand Somo Tournament.
本場所は1場所15日間あり、関取は１日1番相撲を取るので、8勝すれば勝ち越しです。
A sumo tournament is 15 days long, and each wrestler has one match per day.
If a wrestler wins 8 matches or over during that tournament, that means the sumo wrestler .had a winning record for the tournament.
負け越し(Makekoshi) ： losing record'
本場所15日間で、勝ちより負けが多くなること。
To have more defeats than wins in a 15-day honbasho.
番付/ Rankings
本場所で勝ち越すと、そのお相撲さんは次の場所からは番付が上がります。たくさん勝つと、その分番付もたくさん上がります。
If a sumo wrestler gets a winning record for a tournament, he will be promoted to a higher rank in the next tournament.
負け越せば、次の場所からは番付が下がります。
If a sumo wrestler gets a Iosing record, he will go down in the rankings in the next tournament.
このように、序の口から関脇までの地位は、相撲の勝敗によってその分番付が上下します。
At the positions of sekiwake or lower, the wrestler's ranking goes up and down depends on his match results.
ですが、横綱や大関の場合、昇進するためには特別な条件があります。
But there are some requirements to be promoted to yokozuna or ozeki.
ここからは、番付を上から順に紹介します。
I will write about rankings in sumo.
幕内 / makuuchi division (makunouchi)
The top division of Sumo.
横綱から、大関、関脇、小結、前頭までは、『幕内』です。
Yokozuna, Ozeki, Sekiwake, Komurubi, and Maegashira are "Makuuchi" division.
幕内の力士は、基本的には幕内力士同士で戦います。
The makuuchi wrestler fights between makauchi wrestlers basically.
■横綱/ Yokozuna■
横綱は、大相撲の最高位。
The highest rank in sumo.
横綱昇進の条件(目安) / The conditions for promotion to yokozuna. (This is only a guid)
あくまでも目安ですが、大関から横綱に昇進するのに必要なのは…
- 大関の地位での、2場所連続優勝。/Winning two consecutive tournaments at the position of ozeki.
- 力量、品格 / competence & dignity
横綱からの降格/Demotion from yokozuna
一度横綱になった力士は、降格することはありません。
Once a sumo wrestler promoted to yokozuna, he never be demoted.
横綱の人数/ Number of yokozuna wrestlers
0~5人程
Around 0~5 wrestlers
■大関/Ozeki■
二番目に高い番付。
The second highest rank in sumo.
大関昇進の条件(目安)/ The conditions for promotion to ozeki.(only a guide)
大関に昇進する条件は、小結か関脇の地位で、連続した3場所の合計勝ち星が33勝を上回ることです。
Winning 33 matches in total in thee consecutive tournaments at the rank of komusubi or sekiwake is the condition for promotion to ozeki.
大関からの降格/Demotion from ozeki
大関は、2場所連続で負け越すと、関脇に陥落します。
If a ozeki gets a losing record for two consecutive meets, he will be demoted to sekiwake in the next meet.
大関の人数/ Number of ozeki wrestlers
2～5
■関脇/Sekiwake■
人数/ Number of sekiwake wrestlers
関脇は普通は二人ですが、まれに3人になる場合もあります。
The number of sekiwake wrestlers is generally two, but it becomes three in rare cases.
■小結/Komusubi■
人数/Number of komusubi wrestlers
小結も基本的には二人。3人や4人になったこともあるようです。
The number of komusubi is also basically two, but rarely it becomes 3~4.
《三役/Sanyaku》
関脇と小結をまとめて、『三役』と呼びます。大関も三役に含む場合もあります。
Sekiwake and komusubi are also called "Sanyaku" together. Sometimes ozeki is also included in "sanyaku."
三役(小結、関脇)への昇進の際は、特別な条件はありません。
There are no specific conditions to be promoted to komusubi or sekiwake.
■十両/Juryo division■
十両は、幕内のひとつ下の階級。
The second highest division in sumo.
十両力士は、基本的には十両同士で戦います。
The juryo wrestler basically fights between juryo wrestlers each other.
十両の人数/The number of juryo wrestlers
28人前後
Around 28 wrestlers
《関取/ Sekitori》
幕内と十両のお相撲さんは、『関取』です。
Makuuchi and juryo wrestlers are "Sekitori."
関脇や小結、前頭、十両のお相撲さんに呼び掛ける時や、話題に出すときなどは、「関取」と呼びます。
Sekiwake, komusubi, maegashira, and juryo wrestlers are called "Sekitori."
横綱と大関のことは普通は「関取」とは呼ばず、「横綱」「大関」と呼びます。
Yokozuna/ozeki are generally called "Yokozuna" "ozeki," not "sekitori."
『関取』とそれ以下のお相撲さんには、待遇面などで大きな違いがあります。
There are big differences between "sekitori" and lower ranked wrestlers in treatment.
幕下 / Makushita division
幕下には、100人前後のお相撲さんがいます。
There are around 100 wrestlers in makushita division.
三段目/ Sandanme division
三段目もも100人前後。
Around 100 wrestlers.
序二段/Jonidan division
100人前後。
Around 100 wrestlers.
序の口/Jonokuchi division
序の口は60人前後。
Around 60 wrestlers.

本日は、平成30年大相撲九州場所が終わったばかりです。千秋楽、私は５時過ぎから見始めたのですが、いろいろありましたね！

立ち合い手つきの判定問題、御嶽海のがんばり、貴景勝の、やたらとしっかりした優勝インタビュー。
とてもドキドキさせられつつ、楽しませていただきました。
